Chapter 22: Epilogue

Rose tried to get past the other dancers in the crowded hallway leading back to the dressing rooms. After such a huge performance that night, everyone was hugging and congratulating one another on such wonderful dances. Rose had been one of the dancers that night, performing the same routine she had done at the lockdown in Nebraska the year before. It earned her plenty of applause from the crowd and somewhere in that massive theater had been her two friends Nick and Aaron, and most of all, her loving boyfriend Zak.

A few months after the lockdown in California, Rose and Lenore finally moved in with Zak. Being apart from one another after they had begun dating was absolute torture for both of them, yet they still wanted to play it right by dating for a couple months before she officially moved in. Lenore and Gracie got along beautifully, and Rose's happiness only increased now that she was living with Zak. Her nightmares did not come back either; they had finally been left in the past and were not able to hurt her again. Everything went smoothly in the transition. Zak also met Rose's family, and vice versa after they moved in together. Much to their relief, both families welcomed them with open arms.

All three episodes Rose had been a part of certainly did show some of the best evidence the GAC had ever found. Although she found it weird seeing herself on television, she still felt proud that her dancing helped the guys. Response from the fans was overwhelming; they couldn't believe all the activity which had been drawn out by her ballet. After San Diego, there were not many opportunities for her to dance at a lockdown, but she always was ready and willing whenever there might be.

As Rose was about to enter the dressing room to change from her costume, she heard a familiar voice calling her name. She turned around and saw Nick struggling to get past all the dancers.

"Nick!" she called as she walked back towards him.

He hugged her. "You were wonderful tonight," he told her.

She smiled. "Thank you, but what are you doing back here?"

"Zak needs to talk to you right away, it seems pretty important."

This concerned her. "Where is he?"

"Outside, I'll take you to him."

Rose still wore her pointe shoes. "Nick can't I change first?"

He shook his head. "No time, come on," he said grabbing her arm and pulling her with him.

Now she felt very concerned. If there was no time to even change, something must be incredibly urgent. Fighting the crowds again, Nick and Rose escaped through a side entrance and he began escorting her to the back of the building. There was no sign of Zak right away.

"Nick is it bad?" she asked.

Nick shook his head. "I don't really know. You'll have to talk to Zak."

Behind the school was a small garden with a fountain in the center where many of the students would sit and relax during breaks. Rose saw Zak standing by the fountain with his head down and his hands behind his back, seemingly deep in thought.

"He's waiting for you," Nick said gesturing for her to go on ahead.

Rose walked towards Zak, her heart pounding in anticipation to find out what was wrong. Nervously gripping the ends of her maroon skirt, she kept walking. Zak's head lifted as she approached him.

"Zak?" she asked.

A small smile crossed his lips as he hugged her. "You danced beautifully tonight. I am so glad I finally got to see that routine in its entirety."

She smiled. "Thank you, and yes no ghosts were able to interrupt me this time. Is there something you wanted to tell me?"

He sighed heavily and the smile diminished. "Rose, I have been thinking things over lately and I have come to a very big decision concerning us."

His tone told her that terrible news was coming. Rose couldn't believe it. Was he really breaking up with her?

"I cannot call you my girlfriend anymore," he stated.

"Wha...?" she whispered.

"I cannot call you my girlfriend anymore because you deserve to be more than that."

A slight change in his tone caught her attention. "Wh...what are you saying?"

He smiled, this time wider than before. "Rose, I have called you my girlfriend for over a year now, and I realize that you mean far more to me than that. You are the most beautiful, caring, wonderful woman I have ever met. I don't want you to be my girlfriend," he said as he descended to one knee before her.

Rose's eyes widened and her hands flew to her mouth in shock.

Zak pulled out a small black box and opened it, revealing a beautiful diamond ring. "I want you to be my wife. Rose Van Ghent, will you marry me?"

Rose's eyes overflowed with tears of joy. Although he had begun leading her to believe something else, she realized now that she meant far more to him than she thought. She began nodding.

"Yes! Yes I will!" she said as she cried.

Zak slipped the ring on her finger and he stood up and took her in his arms hugging her tightly. After a few moments, they shared a long, passionate kiss.

"I love you so much, Rose," he told her.

"I love you too, Zak. God you had me worried there for a minute," she said with a huge smile on her face.

He laughed. "I'm sorry, I was just playing up the drama for the moment."

She nodded. "Well played, Mr. Bagans."

Zak smiled. "I can't wait until the day I can call you Mrs. Bagans."

Rose also couldn't wait for that day. She kissed him again, but this time as they were embracing, she was on pointe.

"Hey, congratulations you two!" Aaron said as he approached them with his camera rolling.

Rose turned and laughed when she saw that he was filming a vlog. Now everyone would know that she and Zak were engaged. She hugged him and thanked him. Nick also came up and  congratulated them. It was truly a night to remember, and for Rose it was the most wonderful night of her life up to that time. While her dancing may have been stellar, nothing was more wonderful that night than becoming Zak's fiancée. They exchanged similar smiles before embracing and kissing once more, her beautiful ring glittering away on her finger, the symbol of the next chapter of her life with Zak.

After getting a shot of this kiss and the engagement ring, Aaron turned the camera back towards him. Smiling he said, "Aaron's vlog, out."
